The Scandinavian Model: Are Nordic Companies the New Stars of Sustainability?

[slideshare id=2080659&doc=diraugsep1-090928052421-phpapp01&type=d]

This is a new report (that I conducted the research for) from salterbaxter exploring sustainability across Scandinavia. Key insight:

As responsibility is something that is just done across the region, starting at government and running through their enviably equitable societies, there is not much expectation on companies to deliver decent sustainability communications.

Personally I found the level, outside of the big global leaders like Volvo and Novo Nordisk to be quite low – a shame as they were all doing good stuff. This put these companies at a disadvantage at a time of increasing civil society pressure, and a more observant, interconnected and worried world. We felt that at a time when the world is looking at the Scandinavian model as a post-crisis solution, these companies were not capitalising on their leadership as they were failing to create engaging, meaningful communications around well their well embedded sustainability.
